What You'll Do

The Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering offers short continuing education and professional development courses, ranging from one day to two weeks in length. The Assistant Director will assist the Director with development and coordination of these courses in addition to providing support for outreach, reporting, proposals, and other duties. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Continuing Education.

  • Assist with development and coordination of continuing education courses for professionals in conjunction with the Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering.
  • Assist with development and coordination of outreach events.
  • Develop reports on continuing education and outreach events for advisors and federal and state agencies as needed.
  • Assist with the development of financial reports and marketing materials.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and alliances with co-sponsors, federal and state agencies, professional organizations, etc.
  • Prepare proposals for submission to state and federal agencies as well as corporate sponsors.
  • Involvement in professional service and development (examples include: manuscript reviews, manuscript preparation, committee membership, read research manuscripts, attend webinars, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Center for Ergonomics (C4E) operates within the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) in the College of Engineering. Our mission is to make workplaces and organizations safe, efficient, productive and enjoyable. We are dedicated to gaining and sharing a better understanding of how tools, technologies and work practices affect health and performance and how they can be improved through human-centered design. Our research also advances basic knowledge about people's psychological and physical abilities and limitations.

Skills You Have

  • Master's degree or higher in occupational safety & health, public health, ergonomics, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in occupational safety and/or public health.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, administrative, presentation and computer skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with local, state, and federal agencies/organizations.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to set priorities, exercise initiative, work collaboratively and meet deadlines while working on multiple projects.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • This position involves traveling to various locations on and off campus to conduct assessments and deliver materials. Occasional schedule flexing will be required for morning/evening/weekend events and overnight travel.
