The County of Chesterfield is currently recruiting for the position of GIS Specialist for the Engineering Data Management Section of the Utilities department. The GIS Specialist has a broad range of responsibilities related to the maintenance of the Utility Department's GIS related data; to include routine updates to the water, sewer, and easement GIS layers; the creation and maintenance of utility schematics via computer aided drafting software. Duties will include reading and transcribing engineering plans, field notes, and easement plats as necessary, Verifying water and sewer availability for the public. Performs other work as required.

Successful candidate will possess an associate's degree in geography, cartography, engineering or a related field; one year of responsible experience working with geographical information systems (GIS) or in performing computer aided drafting and mapping and/or one year of experience in GPS collection and surveying; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of principles and concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD); of cartographic techniques. Skill in utilizing computer aided drafting and mapping tools and programs, preferably AutoCAD software and ESRI-based GIS software and its applications; in utilizing a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment. Ability to collect, interpret and integrate relevant data from multiple sources; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
