Course Description

This course provides an intensive introduction to methods and topics for knowledge representation and management, with an emphasis on representing knowledge for digital health interventions and evidence synthesis in learning health systems. Students who complete the course will become familiar with important knowledge engineering technologies, standards, and the social context of knowledge use. They will also have mastered foundational methods necessary for more advanced study and mentored research in collaborative knowledge representation and management. This class is delivered in a hybrid mode with co-occurring online asynchronous activities and optional in-person learning activities.

Responsibilities*

Attend classes (T 10:00AM?11:30PM); track student attendance in class; grade all assignments and respond to student questions about assignments; hold weekly office hours to answer questions and to offer informal writing instruction to students; help with coordinating student presentations; meet regularly with instructors for updates on course planning. There is an online and an in-person discussion section in this course.

Required Qualifications*

Graduate student at the University of Michigan who has taken the LHS 611 course previously and is able to give feedback on students? weekly written responses. Must be in good academic standing.

Desired Qualifications*

Demonstrated interest in knowledge representation and knowledge management;

Ability to work with diverse student bodies;

Familiarity with health informatics

Modes of Work

Decision Making Process

All applications will be submitted for review to the faculty member instructors. After a review of the applications and possible interviews, the decision will be made by the instructor.

Selection Process

Selection of grader will be made by instructors (Zach Landis-Lewis and Nancy Allee). Selection criteria include writing excellence as well as experience in the teaching of writing and/or with health informatics, excellent communication skills, and relevance of graduate training.
