Job Duties

  • Serve as the senior advisor to address a full range of complex human resource matters as they relate to the diverse group of individuals at WTD. 
  • Support the advancement of WTD's equity, racial, and social justice principles and practices and its alignment to the County's ESJ Strategic Plan.
  • Manage and supervise multiple assigned HR services and programs to ensure efficient and effective operations of policies, processes, and systems. 
  • Drive innovative improvements within the division by leading continuous improvement initiatives to align with WTD's strategic goals and prepare the workforce for future business needs.
  • Work with the HR Manager II to build a collaborative, action-driven, and customer-focused HR team in a positive and supportive learning environment and culture.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience across a wide range of HR functions and service delivery, including employee relations, employment and labor law, compensation, staffing, training and development, performance management, medical and leave management, and organizational development.   
  • In-depth knowledge of King County policies, processes, and labor contracts.   
  • Experience in managing, coaching, and training employees in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Experience integrating equity and social justice principles to coach and mentor a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven skills in analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving, judgment, and influence.  
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and establish effective relationships across all organizational levels while maintaining confidentiality and exhibiting tact/diplomacy.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business, HR management, policy administration, pre-law, law, or similar field.
  • Experience analyzing HR systems for process designs and improvements. 
  • Experience with King County specific enterprise level tools such as NeoGov, PeopleSoft, Tableau, PowerBI
  • SHRM or HRCI certification.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

Remote and Onsite Work Details: Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements approximately 3-5 days per month. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including treatment plants the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). 

Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.

Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week with flexible schedules. This position is Exempt and not covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.  

Union Representation: This position is not represented.
