Our client in the Healthcare space is looking for an experienced Instructional Project Manager Lead to join their team on a freelance basis.

This role will be hybrid in Downtown San Diego, with onsite days Monday and Wednesday. This is part-time, but flexible, about 25+ hours/week, for 3-4 weeks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver hands-on coaching and training to internal Project Managers, elevating overall PM best practices and execution.
• Assess current project management workflows and reengineer processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and outcomes.
• Provide strategic guidance on risk management, critical path planning, and proactive project oversight.
• Partner closely with leadership to drive alignment and implement improved PM methodologies.
• Facilitate role-based learning through meeting participation, real-time feedback, and mentorship.
• Sit in on key, high-impact projects to guide teams on strategic decision-making and execution.
• Drive cultural change by instilling proactive project management habits and accountability across the team.
• Introduce and reinforce structured approaches to managing timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder communication.

Requirements

• 10+ years of project management experience, with a strong focus on strategy and process improvement (not just execution).
• Proven experience transforming or maturing project management functions within an organization.
• Deep understanding of risk management, critical pathing, and project lifecycle best practices.
• Strong coaching and mentorship skills with the ability to train and influence PM teams.
• Confident communicator who is comfortable being direct, vocal, and driving change.
• Experience working across different organizational PM structures and methodologies.
• Exposure to or experience within Pharma or regulated industries preferred.
• Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Hive) is a plus but not required.
• Ability to work hybrid in San Diego (Downtown; in-office Monday and Wednesday).
