Job Summary
The Pediatric Specialty Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the clinical home for children and families seeking care across multiple pediatric subspecialties at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. The primary mission of the ACU is to partner with our doctors, nurses, and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Patient Services Assistant. Responsibilities*
Provide clinic operational support to the Pediatric Specialties in a pediatric ambulatory care clinic setting. Participate in a rotation of all jobs including check-in, check-out, cash collection, and cash reconciliation. The position includes additional responsibility of:
- Accurately and efficiently schedule patient appointments utilizing Cadence.
- Management of pre-arrival functions to assure all necessary information has been obtained for clinic visits.
- Serve as a resource for physicians and other staff, patients, and outside third parties for insurance authorizations and other managed care related issues.
- Respond to patient inquiries related to special requirements of insurance plans, directing patient to insurance carrier as needed to address coverage and benefit questions.
- Ensure completeness of visit information including type of visit, reason for service, charge for service and diagnostic codes for processing professional and facility charges.
- Participate in creating efficient patient flow coordinating with nursing/medical assistant staff and faculty.
- Prior authorization for genetic and molecular testing.
Required Qualifications*
- High School diploma or GED
- 0-2 years' experience within a large, complex healthcare system.
- Experience and proficiency in utilizing computer including standard business computing programs and EMR.
- Must have a solid knowledge of general office practices and ability to understand medical documentation, coding and diagnosis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
- Ability to manage stress effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively and seamlessly as an integral member of the team.
- Track record of observing and executing patient confidentiality protocol.
- Ability to take initiatives and exercise critical thinking skill to effectively solve problems and improve quality with the framework of patient care support protocols.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience with pediatric population.
- Experience with obtaining prior authorizations for testing.
- Solid understanding of computer systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in Medical Terminology.
- Previous experience with MiChart Cadence/Epic system.
- Seek constructive approached to resolving workplace issues.
- Responds positively to change, showing willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work.
- Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, and consistently sharing information and resources with others.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
