Responsibilities*
- Initiating patient medical record request based on patient demographics and authorization forms.
- Carefully verify patient identities by checking names, date of birth, insurance details, and other relevant information to ensure accurate record retrieval.
- Obtain proper authorizations adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain a detailed log of all record request, including date, provider contacted, status updates and expected delivery.
- Actively follow up with healthcare providers to ensure timely receipt of medical records, addressing any delays or issues.
- Accurately enter medical records into the electronic health system, properly indexing and organizing documents bases on established protocols.
- Prioritize urgent request and ensure timely completion of record retrieval tasks to meet deadlines.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-3 years of experience
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
