The Operations Section of King County's Solid Waste Division (SWD) is inviting applications to fill two (2) Term-limited Temporary or Special Duty Assignment (only available to eligible King County Career Service employees) Scale Operator positions.

About the Role
- Providing excellent customer service in a professional manner.
- Educating customers on policies and procedures i.e., diverting recyclable materials away from our landfill.
- Collaborating with Communications Team on brochures, website, and signage.
- Collaborating with Recycling Diversion Team for long-term solutions for waste diversion.
- Enforcing policies i.e., assessing related fee.

Job Duties
What You'll Be Doing:
- Interact with customers as they enter and exit the transfer facilities providing information, answering questions and providing direction, education and information.
- Reconcile daily funds and receipts.
- Using computerized automated cashiering and scale systems; handling cash, credit cards, Apple pay, King County vouchers.
- Daily reporting of receipts, records, accounts, and permits.
- Interpersonal communication; with customers, co-workers, vendors, & other departments.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring
- Working knowledge of cashier/cash handling experience
- Minimum of one (1) year customer service experience
- Aptitude to work closely with others; experience communicating with a diverse range of staff and customers in a pleasant, non-judgmental, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.
- Demonstrated computer skills for timesheets, customer reconciliation, email communication, virtual training/meetings
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated organizational, written and oral communication skills
- 10-key experience
- Reliable mode of transportation that provides the ability to work at any of our facilities throughout King County. Link to Transfer Station locations.

Working Conditions
- Onsite Work Requirement: The work associated with this position will have multiple locations in King County (i.e. Algona, Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Renton, Tukwila, Factoria, Houghton, Shoreline, Vashon, Cedar Falls, Maple Valley Landfill). Link to Transfer Station locations.
- Work Schedule: Regular Part-Time (RPT) Scale Operators are primarily assigned to a 7/10 work schedule (7 days on, up to 10 hours per day, followed by 7 days off (Tuesday - Monday).RPT positions are not guaranteed any certain number of work hours per week and weekly hours vary. These positions are scheduled to work as needed to supplement full-time schedules. Winter months are slower and hours more limited, possibly only working weekend shifts. Summer months are busy, often yielding consistent full time and overtime work. Work hours are variable including Day, Swing, and Graveyard shifts. The Solid Waste Division is only closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. In this position, you are considered an essential employee and will be expected to work during weather, health, and other emergency events. ?This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
- Duration: This recruitment aims to fill Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions with an anticipated 12 months. If the positions are filled by King County employees who have successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the roles as Special Duty Assignments.
- Physical Environment: The candidate must have the ability and willingness to work in an industrial site setting with adverse conditions such as dust, odor, high volume noise and heavy traffic.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters, Local 174.
