LOCATION

This is an on-site position assigned to the Ludington Pump Storage facility located in Ludington, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those who qualify).

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Mechanical Engineer assist in the development, design and testing of new products or systems. They work with a team of other engineers, scientist and technicians on moderately complex projects to ensure that their projects meet all relevant safety standards and specifications. This position is responsible for testing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems as well as the mechanical testing and maintenance of products in production and testing prototypes. This position is for the Generation Planning Hydro Engineering group on site at Ludington Pumped Storage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare specifications for purchases of mechanical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
  • Write reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential mechanical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
  • Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
  • Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing mechanical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps and investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential mechanical engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
  • Design, maintain, implement, or improve mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
  • Design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all mechanical engineering project matters
  • Manage the development and implementation of mechanical systems
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Mechanical and technical skills
  • Proficient with computer-assisted design (CAD) software
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of GD&T principles
  • Proficient in MS Office, with aptitude for learning new software

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
  • (OR) Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
