Job Summary
The University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is seeking a Senior Research Compliance Specialist to provide support in the areas of research security, research information security, and international engagement policy and compliance. The position requires excellent attention to detail, communication, initiative, and the ability to effectively manage competing high priority tasks. The position will report to the Executive Director, Research Security and Assistant Director, Research Information Security.
Responsibilities*
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Track and review updates to federal requirements in the areas of research security, research information security, and international research with implications for the university's compliance program, including applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidance.
- Identify university policy or guidance related to and potentially impacted by new or updated federal requirements and assist with the development or modification of guidance and resources.
- Review, establish, and manage research security and research information security proposal and contract requirements.
- Assist with risk assessments and management.
- Support cross-institutional efforts to address research security and research information security, including the development and documentation of a research security program.
- Assist in the development of communications, resources and updates to web, training, and other information.
- Develop knowledge of the work and processes of other unit compliance teams and work collaboratively as needed.
- Serve as resource and liaison for faculty and administrators.
- Draft documents, including business process documents, agendas, meeting highlights and correspondence.
- Assist with required reports and reporting.
- Attend related meetings and conferences as needed.
- Track news and updates and associated national meetings in the areas of research security and international research engagement.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Outstanding attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills along with excellent oral and written communication.
- Dependability and the ability and desire to work as part of a team along with the proven ability to self-start and show initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate activities and carry them through to completion as well as the flexibility to change focus and priorities quickly.
- Experience handling sensitive information with a demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy.
- Excellent computer skills including solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Google workspace and Adobe Creative Suite.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience with research, research policy, research compliance and/or research administration.
- Work experience in a higher education or similar setting.
