MEDICATION TECHNICIAN
Part Time, Nights
JOB SUMMARY:
- Perform job duties ethically and morally; practices good leadership skills.
- Receives physician orders, document orders, order medications, receive medications, and administer medications as directed in the Medication Administration policies and procedures manual.
- Assume any duty assigned within the bounds of professional certification.
- Works as a certified nursing assistant if certified or personal care aide after completing on-site training as needed.
- Continue education to meet state of practice requirements by attending workshops, in-service classes and online computer training material. (Must complete minimum hours of required Medication Administration training by qualified instructor per state regulations every year.)
- Perform procedures such as taking vital signs, giving enemas and suppositories, etc.
- Maintains standard precautions, observes infection control practices and hazardous chemical procedures.
- Communicate with physicians and other health care professionals as needed to ensure quality care and medication orders.
- Be alert to all needs of residents, reporting immediately any changes in residents' status to physician, family, and administration.
- Perform emergency procedures as well as notification procedures.
- Complete resident record documentation as required in EMR.
- Assist in making out assignment sheets.
- Assists aides in delivering and meeting care needs of the residents.
- Perform resident care as assigned and needed.
- Maintain residents' self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety.
- Report any medication errors immediately.
- Count controlled substance medications, give/take report and follow proper sign-in, sign-off procedures when changing shifts.
- Work consistently and dependably as scheduled following all policies and procedures of the company.
- Communicate with residents, families, friends, and visitors appropriately.
- Perform post-mortem care procedures.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the Director of Nursing, Director of Resident or supervisor in charge.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed the Medication Technician/Aide coursework and validation in state of practice.
- Must have at least 6 months experience as a Medication Technician.
- Must be detail oriented and able to adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be listed in good standing with the state of practice health care personnel registry and/or licensure verification board with no findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation.
- Must be willing to care for geriatric patients and have a genuine concern for their welfare.
- Must be willing to receive, understand, and follow orders.
- Must be willing to work and cooperate well with other care team staff, other departments, and families and visitors.
- Must be kind and respectful to residents, staff, and visitors.
- Must be able to use equipment without jeopardizing the safety of self, others, or equipment and use supplies safely and economically.
- Wears approved uniform or approved dress code and name tag.
- Demonstrates neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Must read, know, and follow personnel, department, and Community policies and procedures.
