Job Summary

The Clinical Epidemiology Unit (CEU) of the Clinical Genetics Branch (CGB), Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting a talented individual to serve as Staff Scientist.

DCEG is committed to discovering and understanding the genetic architecture of cancer, including the identification of common and rare loci for cancer risk, exploration of underlying functional mechanisms and the impact of environmental exposures, and use of genetic variants for risk stratification and prevention. For more information visit the DCEG website.

The CGB conducts interdisciplinary research to advance the understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of cancer and to translate this knowledge into effective evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies for cancer-prone populations as well as general population. The CEU has a large research portfolio on human papillomavirus (HPV)-related basic and translational epidemiologic research projects. The CEU also conducts basic and translational epidemiologic research projects on other gynecologic cancer and other epithelial tumors such as oral cavity, head-and-neck, and lung cancers. Study-derived biospecimens are routinely leveraged into collaborative, laboratory-based, etiologically oriented analyses of genomics and molecular susceptibility.

The Staff Scientist, working under the direction of a Senior Investigator within the CEU, will have responsibilities related to all aspects of the investigator's global health-oriented research program examining the etiology, prevention, and control of HPV-related anogenital cancer, breast cancer, and oral cavity cancer. Specific duties will include coordinating study design (e.g., developing protocols, questionnaires, and specimen handling procedures) and implementation, study management (data coding and cleaning, specimen tracking, and human subjects' approvals), statistical analysis, shared mentoring and supervision, and preparation of reports for presentation or publication. Independent work on analyses and pilot projects will be encouraged. Some international travel in support of field studies may be required.

DHHS, NIH, and NCI are Equal Opportunity Employers

The position requires effective oral and written communication skills as demonstrated through presentations and publications. Experience in setting up and conducting epidemiologic studies and working internationally is a plus. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of disciplines of research in the CEU. Fluency in Spanish, French or Portuguese is preferred.
